Obituary for Iona Agnes Kelly (Swan)

KELLY, Iona Agnes (nee Swan)
December 1, 1937 - July 31, 2019

Passed away peacefully at Carpenter Hospice in Burlington, surrounded by her family, after bravely battling cancer. Only child of Robert Swan and Agnes (nee More) Swan. Survived by Jack Kelly, her adoring husband of 61 years and loving children Donna (Maria), Michael (Karen) and Laurie (Bill) and grandchildren Abi, Matthew, Ryan, Megan, John and Emma. Longtime member of Appleby United Church and volunteer with the Halton Aphasia Centre in Burlington. Born and raised in Montreal, Iona graduated from Macdonald College, and was honoured to teach primary school on the West Island of Montreal before moving with Jack and their children, to Ontario in 1977. Remembered by her family and friends as a kind and gentle lady who was always a warm and welcoming hostess as well as a superb cook and baker. Iona will be deeply missed by Jack and her children. Special thanks to the staff and volunteers at Carpenter Hospice for their care and support. Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Monday, August 5, 2019 from 6-9 p.m. and Tuesday, August 6 from 12 – 1 p.m. with a Funeral Service at 1 p.m. in the chapel. Reception to follow. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carpenter Hospice (Burlington Rotary Community Hospice).
