STEPHENSON, Gwendoline Ruth - 1926-2019
Gwen, the keeper of the family history, and the biggest fan of “ole Blue Eyes”, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at The Carpenter Hospice on Monday, July 15, 2019 at the age of 92. Loving mother of Cameron Smith (Renata Frankovich) of Ottawa and Doug Smith (Carol Chong) of Toronto. Cherished sister of Vera Clayton (the late Red Clayton). Predeceased by parents Roy and Elfrida Stephenson, former spouse Donald Smith, sister Nila Hawthorne (Doug), sister Barbara Beemer (Dick). She will be dearly missed by her nieces, nephews and all her grandnieces and grandnephews. She will also be missed by her lifelong Hamilton friends, and her many friends at the Williamsburg. Gwen was born and raised on the beach strip in Hamilton and eventually settled in Burlington. She will be fondly remembered for her love of big band music, hiking the Bruce Trail, Hawaii, everything about France and her beloved beach strip. As per her wishes, cremation will take place. Visitation will be held at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street (one block North of City Hall), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Friday, July 19, 2019 from 5-8 p.m., and Saturday, July 20, 2019 from 3-5 p.m. In memory of Gwen, donations can be made to The Carpenter Hospice.
