Obituary for Hans Stenzel

Stenzel, Gunther Hans -

Unexpectedly passed away at his home in Burlington, on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at the age of 94. Beloved husband of the late Helen (neeLafitte). Loving father of Susan Stenzel-Pittman (Deane) and Peter Stenzel. Cherished Grandpa of Keith, Beth (Michal), Kristen (Mike), Caitlin (Austin) and Haley and proud great-grandpa of Eloise, Declan and River. Dear brother of Liselotte Pregernig and beloved uncle of Andrea Fischl-Pregernig (Winni). Hans will be sadly missed by his extended family and many friends from his bridge clubs in Burlington.

Hans retired as a Senior Electrical Engineer with Nortel after many dedicated years of service. Hans was an “Engineer’s Engineer”. He did not limit himself to Electrical Engineering; he embraced all of the Engineering fields. His teams depended upon his technical expertise on the most difficult problems on any of the topics they were struggling with. This rare skill set made him a rare Engineer … one that was an absolute joy to work with.

He loved to sail and he owned boats that he would cruise on, and race on. Ever the Engineer, he would train his crew on the aerodynamics of sailing. Racing was a combination of his passion for the sea and of his technical skills. That combination of skills and passion brought him and his family great joy.

Private Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2265 Headon Road, Burlington on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. Reception in the Church Hall immediately following the service. Private interment at Rosemount Memorial Gardens at a later date. If desired, memorial contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be sincerely appreciated by the family. www.smithsfh.com
