Obituary for Gertraud "Trudy" Franziska Taubenberger (Schaad)

TAUBENBERGER, Gertraud “Trudy” Franziska (nee Schaad)

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend was called home to be with the Lord on the morning of Thursday, May 26, 2022. She passed peacefully at the age of 93 with her loving family by her side.
Trudy will be lovingly remembered by her children, Andrea Pio (Dan), John Taubenberger (Jen); loving Oma to Samantha Williams (Malcolm) and Chelsea; sister Helga Strasser and numerous other family members and friends. Trudy was predeceased by her parents Anna and Vinzenz; sister Irmgard; husband Andreas and infant daughter Heidi.

Trudy was born in Rosenheim, Germany in 1929 to Anna and Vinzenz Schaad. At just the mere age of 14 she began to apprentice and got her license in hairdressing. In 1957 she immigrated with her husband to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Here Trudy and Andreas welcomed their daughter, Andrea, followed shortly by their son, John. Trudy was a devoted wife and mother as well as an active hairdresser at Gertraud’s Beauty Salon. Trudy was one of the first to bring hair rollers to Canada, a tool she learned to use while practicing her trade in Germany. She was a woman of many passions including skiing, dancing, creating delicious meals, crocheting/knitting, reading, singing, crosswords and most of all spending time with family and friends. Trudy always knew how to make people smile, she was a kind soul, generous, loving and compassionate. Trudy was known as “Oma” to all who were blessed to know her. She will be dearly missed ….

A private service will be held at the family’s request. For those who wish, donations in Gertraud’s memory can be made to Diabetes Canada. Special thank you to the wonderful nurses and staff of 400 North at Joseph Brant and to Andrew at Tansley Woods for all your care and compassion.
