Obituary for Evelyn Helen Chapman

Chapman, Evelyn Helen (nee Macaluso)

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our dear mother, grandmother, sister and sister in law. Evelyn returned to Our Saviour on Friday June 25th in her 86th year, after a lengthy illness. In her final days she proved a steadfast witness in her unity with Christ’s passion on the cross. Predeceased by her husband Ronald George in 2013. She is survived by her sister Rose Tepsich (Mike) , brother in law Robert Blackwell QC, children David , Brian (Janey), Laurie (Paul) and nine grandchildren, James, William, Isabel, Matthew, Thomas, Bridget, Tess, Paxton and Nolan. Ev was the daughter of Angelo and Assunta Macaluso, born and raised in Hamilton. Her parents instilled values in their children that one finds truly rare in our current circumstances. Faith, loyalty, resilience, self sufficiency, devotion to persons and causes. An exceptional and dedicated student and athlete, Ev attended MacMaster University at 16 and was awarded top female Athlete and eventually inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. After a teaching career, Ev raised her children then embarked upon a 25 year real estate career. In many of those years , she was top agent in Burlington. Her enthusiasm for sport never waned as a participant or a fan. Tennis , golf , water and snow skiing and her beloved CFL. Countless children, family and friends owe their ability to ski on water and snow to her persistent instruction. She derived enormous joy from being with her family, remained in the conviction of the faith of her fathers’, was relentless in the pursuit of all endeavours and enjoyed good health until the end. All of us were shocked by the virulence of Scleroderma that struck her these past months. Her choice was to remain at home throughout her illness and until natural death. The house was filled with visitors reflecting the enormous circle of friends gathered over the years. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May the souls of the faithfully departed , through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Visitation at St. Raphael Parish, 4072 New St. Burlington, on Wednesday June 30, 2021 from 10am until the start of the Memorial Mass at 11am. A private family interment will take place following the Mass. In accordance with provincial regulations, there is a limit to the number of visitors who may attend the service and visitation. Please RSVP in advance at www.smithsfh.com. If you are having difficulty with the online RSVP, please call the Funeral Home between 9a.m. - 5 p.m. All visitors are asked to wear a face mask.
