Obituary for Elli Hedwig Sukiennik (Schimrosczik)

SUKIENNIK, Elli Hedwig (nee Schimrosczik)

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our cherished mother Elli Hedwig Sukiennik (nee Schimrosczik) at Oakville Trafalgar Hospital where she battled but succumbed to Covid. Elli now joins Bruno, her loving husband of 67 years who predeceased her in 2018. A special thanks to the staff for providing care and comfort when we couldn’t be with her.

She was a fiercely independent, caring and generous woman, wife, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be missed by daughters; Regina (Randy) and Sylvia (Murray), her grandchildren; Melissa (Jimmie), Lynsey (Trevor), Sean (Sarah), Jesse, great grandchildren; Ava, Rianne, Cayden, her brother Gerhardt, her nephew, Roland, her niece Kathie and their families.

Elli and Bruno emigrated to Canada from Germany in 1953 with only $200, several suitcases and a pioneering spirit. They worked hard every day to be productive citizens and created a loving home life for their family and the generations that followed. Prior to covid restrictions, Elli enjoyed an active life at Delmanor Retirement residence that included fitness, bingo, music, fellowship, family visits and pampering her budgie and steadfast companion Mikie.

A private cremation will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Elli to Salvation Army (Oakville) or Covenant House would be sincerely appreciated by the family. Donations, online condolences and tributes can be made at wwwsmithsfh.com (Brant Street Chapel).
