Obituary for Edna Pitt

PITT, Edna (nee Lynas)
March 8th, 1933 - July 21st, 2019

With heavy hearts we announce the gentle passing of Edna Pitt at age 86. After a long and courageous struggle with Parkinson's disease, Edna spent her final days surrounded by her loving family at The Carpenter Hospice in Burlington.

Edna was born in England and raised in Yorkshire, where she met a Devonshire soldier named Frank. They married in 1952 and moved to Canada in 1955, to start a new life in Burlington. Edna was a long time member of St. Philip’s Anglican Church, where she sang in the choir, made lifelong friendships and was very active in volunteer community service. She enjoyed a long career in finance and office management. However, her greatest sense of pride and joy came from the family she and Frank created.

Edna was a loving Wife, devoted Mum and a perfect Granny. She will be missed deeply by Frank, her beloved husband of nearly 67 years; daughters Cathy Pitt (Lloyd), Frances Hillier (Greg) and Helen “Penny” Janssen-Pitt (Jim); her grandchildren Devon (Ross), Margie, Natalie, Sean, Jenny, and Heather. We are grateful that she is reunited with her ‘purple angel’, granddaughter Laura who passed away in 2016. Edna is survived by her sister Elizabeth, predeceased by sisters Grace and Madeline, and fondly remembered by nieces and nephews and their families.

Edna embodied unconditional love. She welcomed friends and strangers into her home and her heart. Edna will be sadly missed by all that knew her for her warmth, generosity, humour and compassion. We will always remember her love of music, rainbows and all things purple. Our family is grateful for the support and exemplary care Edna received from physicians, community health care workers, and the team at The Carpenter Hospice.

Visitation will be held at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON, 905-632-3333, on Saturday, July 27, 2019 from 5-8pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at 2:00pm. Reception to immediately follow the service. Private Cremation will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, and in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Edna to Parkinson Canada or The Carpenter Hospice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.

You’ll be in our hearts, always.
