Obituary for Driffield McCara Cameron

It is with great sadness we announce the death of Driffield "Driff" Cameron. He died peacefully surrounded by his children. He leaves behind his children – Gordon, Mark (his fiancée Divine) and Deanne – and his brother Andrew (Diane). He was predeceased by his parents Donald McCara "Mac" Cameron and Violet Joyce (née Woodman).

Driff was born in Windsor, Nova Scotia and raised largely in Tatamagouche and Canning. He excelled in school and developed a love of the outdoors and sports. He attended Acadia University with the original intent of becoming a lawyer before finding his way into the world of geology. After graduating, he came to Toronto to work for ASARCO before moving into the world of gold exploration with companies such as Gold Fields and High River. His career led him all over the globe from the forests of Canada, to the jungles of South America and from the deserts of Africa to the frozen tundra of Siberia. Along the way he played key roles in developing mines in Snow Lake, Manitoba and Taparko, Burkina Faso.

Outside of geology, he was a keen volunteer with several Scout groups in Burlington as both a leader and group committee chair, beginning with the 29th and most notably the 13th. He also enjoyed playing hockey with the Burlington Oldtimers and slo-pitch with the Burlington Oldtimers and in the Toronto Mining League. He enjoyed hiking, canoeing, cross country skiing, the humorous works of Stephen Leacock, the occasional dram of Scotch, exploring new places, learning new things and spending time with his children.
