Passed away surrounded by family at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington on Friday December 27, 2019 at the age of 75. Loving and devoted husband of Gaye MacKay (nee McLeod) for 51 years. Cherished father of Danielle MacKay (Christopher Mulhern) and Scotland MacKay. Proud grandpa of Ellerie, Reese and Evan Mulhern, and Clark MacKay. Dear brother of Ken MacKay (Judy), Sheila MacKay (Callum) and the late Mary MacKay. John will also be dearly missed by the extended MacKay and McLeod families as well as his countless friends and colleagues.

John graduated with his Bachelor of Phys-Ed. (U of T) and then went on to complete his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1972 (U of G). John opened MacKay’s Animal Hospital in Burlington, ON in 1974 and provided compassionate and dedicated care to animals and clients in his community for 40 plus years. As a testament to his heartfelt dedication to animal welfare, John supported countless animals through the Burlington Humane Society (formerly Animal Aid). In retirement, John was an avid reader, enjoyed golf, swimming, spending quality time with family and relaxing with his wife in Arizona.
