Doug passed away suddenly at his home in Burlington on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at the age of 81. Much beloved husband for 59 years of Marlyn (nee Twiddy). Loving father of Scott (predeceased 2003) and Stephen (Sandy Bovair-Young). Cherished Grandpa Doogie of Bailey (Mickey Trumper) and Riley (Paul Fraser). Fondly remembered by his sisters-in-law Karen (Terry Rotondo) and Donna Smeeton and their families. Doug was a business graduate of Western University (1962) and received an MBA from McMaster University (1967). After 22years of a successful business career in Hamilton, he and Marlyn moved to Colorado in 1984. They established their own company as professional speakers, executive coaches and consultants. Doug was a Rotarian for more than 10 years and a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. He was also given the honor of being named by his club, Rotarian of the year in 2004-05. Retirement never extinguished his passion for sharing his gifts with others. Prior to his return “home” to Burlington in 2017, he continued his service to others by working with at-risk youths of the Douglas County School District in Colorado. Doug was passionate about life. He had a deep and eclectic appreciation of music, sports, history and people. Have one conversation with Doug and you would know one of his most endearing qualities was his genuine interest in what was important to you. He was an unselfish listener. Doug’s belief that “change is inevitable, but growth is optional” will continue to inspire us to become the best version of ourselves. Let that be his legacy. Cremation has taken place. Future interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Burlington. A private gathering of friends and family will take place when allowed, given the current circumstances. For those who wish, donations in memory of Doug to The Scott Young Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
