CURRAN, Donna Sheila (Nee Sutherland)

February 22 , 2021

It is with deep sadness we announce that Donna passed away peacefully at Wellington Park in her 82nd year after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She is survived by her husband of 58 years George, sons Martin (Erica) and Matthew (Christina). She is also survived by five grandchildren, Breanne, Lorna, Beth, Tia and Aidan She is also survived by a great grandson Milo. Donna is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews here and in Scotland and California. She is predeceased by her parents Donald and Barbara her brothers David and William and her sister Catherine. Donna’s wonderful smile and loving nature will be missed by her family and many friends. She deeply loved her family and was as deeply loved in return. She was born in Hamilton, but moved to Burlington at the age of four where she lived the rest of her life. Donna served her community in many ways, as a parent volunteer at Mohawk Gardens public school and Lord Elgin High School. She received many letters from students thanking her for her help. She was an original member of the Board of Directors of the Burlington Boys Gymnastics Club and served as their treasurer for many years. Donna was on organizing committees for many gymnastic meets at the regional, provincial and national level. Donna was a long time member of the Tiger-cat Majorettes and a classicly trained dancer. Her hobbies were knitting and crocheting, many of her creations will be kept as family heirlooms. She loved classical music, jazz and live theatre and attended many concerts and plays. From Christina, Donna in a word grace. She had a smile that would light up any room and a kindness behind her eyes that was paralleled by no one. She had an innocence that never left her and got joy from the little things in life that most people take for granted. She was a nurturer, she enjoyed tending to her gardens and plants, knitting and crocheting and loved to have her family near. Family was her true bliss. Donna had one true love in her life, her husband George. Together they built a beautiful life and she had found what made her complete, a loving family with two wonderful boys, Martin and Matthew and an adoring husband. Later that family would grow to include daughters- in-law, grandchildren and a great grandchild, every addition bringing more happiness and jot to Donna. Always making time for family was a top priority and Sunday dinners were a staple at the Curran house. Mom would cook all day and after dinner the boys would clean up so we could go downstairs and I would rub lotion on her hands and she would say it was good to have a girl around to do “girly things”. The first time we met she made me feel welcome, like I belonged. She had a gentleness and a genuineness that is rare. The closer we became the more she inspired me to be the best wife and mother I could be. She was always there for me, believing in me when I didn’t. She loved to tell stories of when the boys were little or of the trips she had taken with George. I was lucky to have her in my life for twenty-seven years, buy feel it was nearly long enough. I am fortunate to see a lot of the traits that made Donna so special in the family she loved so much. She will live on in our stories and traditions, but most of all in our hearts.

Special thanks to those personal care workers at Wellington Park who took special care of Donna.
Donna was under the care of the doctors at Toronto Western Hospital Movement Disorder Clinic. In lieu of flowers donations to Toronto Western Movement Disorder Clinic in her name would be appreciated.
