Obituary for David A. McNerney

David Ansley McNerney, age 85, passed away peacefully at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital with family by his side. He was born on January 25, 1938, “at 6:30 at night” in Toronto, Ontario, to his parents, Clara McNerney and Thomas McNerney, who preceded him in death. He is also predeceased by his brothers, Jerry and Joe.

David dedicated many years of his life to the Peel District School Board, working as a custodian. Following his retirement, he pursued a lifelong passion for creative hobbies which included leatherwork, painting ceramics, photography and more. After the loss of his beloved wife Carol in 2004, David channeled his grief into creating and proudly sharing a scrapbook album, which captured their cherished memories. David enjoyed always being surrounded by family and friends. He amazed us with his dedication, patience and artistry, spending hours every day colouring beautiful and intricate designs.

David will be missed by his children: Stephen McNerney (Andrea), Katherine Fullerton (Scott), and Harold McNerney (Crystal). He will also be remembered by his grandchildren: April Harris (Jimmy), Amanda McNerney, Andrew McNerney (Ashlee), Kevin McNerney (Joanie), Justin McNerney, Chris McNerney, Jake McNerney, Lauren Fullerton, and Arthor McNerney. Additionally, he leaves behind great-grandchildren: Izzabella McNerney, Hunter Harris, Alexander McNerney, Arthor McNerney, Thomas McNerney and Eric Harris.

David is an Uncle to Lynn (Ed) Jackson and he held a special place in his heart for his sister-in-law, Lois Manser. He also loved Crystal’s family and enjoyed visiting her family in PEI, especially Crystal’s Dad, David Noonan, his wife Elizabeth and her sister, Nikki Noonan.

To many people, David was affectionately known as and called Grandpa. To our friends and community members, thank you for making him your Grandpa too.

A special thank you to Dr. Brian Cameron and OTMH staff for your fantastic care over the years. Thank you to Dr. Praneil Dave Mehta for your care and compassion.
