Martens, David
February 16, 1973 - August 1, 2019

It is with broken hearts that we announce the tragic passing of David at the age of 46. Dave will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend Nicole Martens (nee Finlayson) and their children Katie-Lynn Morris-Martens, Leom Martens and Declan Martens. Loved son of Leo Martens (Pauline) and Linda Malysa (Terry). Son-in-law of Bobby Finlayson and Maggie Patterson (Ray). Cherished brother of Stephen Martens (Melinda), Jessica Sypes (Darryl), Jason Maney (Kristen), Corina Malysa and much loved brother-in-law of Kim Pearce (Jeremy) and Robbie Finlayson. Uncle Dave will be sorely missed by his nieces and nephews, as well as his fur kids Emmet and Ryder. Also missed by extended family, countless friends and colleagues at Noble Plumbing. Our “Ironman” will be missed and loved forever. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the Niagara Regional Police for never giving up on their search for Dave and to all emergency services involved in the initial air, sea and land search and to friends, family and the community for the overwhelming support and care received during this difficult time. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at White Oaks in the Grand Event Room, 253 Taylor Road, Niagara-on-the-Lake on Thursday, August 8, 2019. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 pm followed by a ceremony and reception. A Go Fund Me page for his children has been set up by a friend of the family and arrangements are also being made to set up a Trust Fund for the children.

Dear Leo and family, We are so deeply sorry for your loss. Dave meant a lot to us when he worked at the hardware store in Virgil, and we have never forgotten those times working with him. He was such a delightful person, very caring and had a great sense of humour. In this difficult time, we wish you comfort and peace. - John and Judy Doerksen

I only just realized the connection between you and David. I am so very sorry to hear about him.
Please take comfort in knowing that past and present friends are thinking of you at this time as we

Dear Leo and Family; We were deeply saddened to hear of your profound loss. We can still remember the beaming face of a proud dad when David came into the world. We also recall the happy child racing around at extended family gatherings. The years and kilometres have raced by and we lost touch. We will be thinking of you as you gather to mourn your loss and take time to celebrate the life of a much loved son, husband, dad, brother and friend.

Our hearts go out to your family at this sad time. Our love and prayers for you all to find strength and peace. David was in our wedding almost 25 years ago. My husband grew up with David and they were close friends and roommates. We have many happy memories of David.
