Obituary for Christina Mary McDonnell

Peacefully with her family on March 20, 2023 in her 91st year.

She will be dearly missed by beloved brother Jim (Pauline). Christina immigrated to Canada from Ireland to be near family in the early 1960’s. Loving Aunt to Sarah (Ash) and Una, and Pauline (Pat) in Ireland, Great-Aunt to Sean and Colin, and beloved cousin to many in Ireland. Pre-deceased by parents Francis and Sarah, and her dear friend since childhood, May Nolan. Christina was an amateur actress with the Bernadette Players in Dublin. In Canada, she had a career with the Government of Ontario as a legal secretary. She had many cherished friends in Toronto with whom she maintained regular tickets to the symphony. She enjoyed spending time with her brother and his family, and made frequent trips to Burlington. She was a devoted Aunt to Sarah and Una, bringing the little girls for sleepovers in her bachelor apartment, taking them to the ballet and being a constant loving presence in their lives, and later, the lives of Sean and Colin. She enjoyed sailing with family on Burlington Bay, and visits to the cottage in Beaver Valley. Christina was involved with prayer groups and the charismatic movement in the Catholic Church. She remained devout with daily prayer until her passing.

Special thanks to the caring and compassionate staff at The Village of Tansley Woods who provided loving care.

The funeral mass will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Church on 2265 Headon Road, at 11am on Friday, March 24th. A private interment will follow.
