Obituary

On February 8, 2020, Bruce passed away peacefully with Carrie by his side after courageously battling cancer. They shared the final few days surrounded by close friends and family at Hospice Wellington (Guelph, ON). Bruce and Carrie cherished their 46 "Glorious" years of marriage together while raising two beautiful daughters and seven amazing grandchildren. Loving father to both Tammy (Shawn Boothe) and Sheri (Robert Mahoney) and adored by grandchildren Jordan, Josh, Jai, Alyx, Tyson, Lyric and Skylar; Bruce Gordon Ashton gracefully said goodbye at the age of 68. Beloved by his sister Jean (Don Craig) and predeceased by his brother Wayne. He will be missed by his nieces, nephews, good friends and golf buddies at "The Diamond".

The family would love people to share a memorable photo of yourself with Bruce, by either bringing one to the visitation or uploading a photo on the funeral home website (www.smithsfh.com)

As our families are combined, we are all grieving together. Time to share the fun memories and re-live to great times we had with each other, realizing Bruce was such a catalyst for all those events.
We are certainly going to miss our best friend!

It was a very short ten years ago that we had the privilege of meeting Bruce and Carrie through our membership at Diamond in the Ruff, and very quickly came to call them dear friends. Bruce was always there to offer a smile, a laugh, some sarcasm and a big hug. He will be forever in our hearts and memories. Dave and Danielle Eakins

Bruce was a pillar of the golf membership at the Diamond in the Ruff. We had the utmost respect for him. He treated everyone equally and respectfully. He even hit the fairway the odd time, as a lefty. :) Our condolences to the family.

First of all we should all be extremely grateful to Bruce for using his working life in the service of his community. We first met Bruce when he joined the Diamond in the Ruff golf club in Muskoka. He very quickly became a major part of our golfing community. Bruce’s legacy will be as President of the Diamond membership. He was creative , inclusive and very innovative. Bruce will be missed walking up the fairways in his large hat.
