Obituary

Blair Joseph Kitchen

Passed away with family by his side at Hamilton General Hospital on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at the age of 43. Loving husband of Rochelle (nee Ansley) for 20 years and devoted father of Avery, Jacob and Nathan. Cherished son of Paul and Shirley Kitchen and dear brother of Michael Kitchen (Erika), Brian Kitchen (Ali MacLaggan), Laurie Dietrich (Shawn), Jeff Kitchen, and Brad Kitchen (Amanda MacFarlane). Blair will also be fondly remembered by the Ansley family, numerous friends, and both past and present colleagues. Blair was an inventive animator, comic book creator and story board artist for the past 20 years. He was also passionate about spending time teaching those who were learning the art of animation and thoroughly enjoyed the role of an educator in his field. Blair’s greatest love though was the time he spent with his family. Blair loved his three children immensely and enjoyed coaching all three at various times with their hockey. He always made time for others, never short on sharing his time, skills, and care. Often the last to arrive and the last to go wherever he went. He will be forever missed but never forgotten. Visitation will be held at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON, 905-632-3333, on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm. A Funeral Service will take place at St. George’s Anglican Church (4691 Palladium Way, Burlington), on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 10:30am. A reception will immediately follow at the church, and then the Interment at Evergreen Cemetery (Milton). In lieu of flowers, and as an expression of sympathy, donations in memory of Blair to Josh Lai, CFRE Campaign Director, Transplant Campaign, St. Georges Anglican Church, Burlington, or the Go Fund Me page for Blair's family (link information listed below) would be sincerely appreciated by the family.

I met Blair & Rochelle way back in the Red Rover days when Andy Knight was running it. Blair went from a jaded journeyman to an inspiring creator since then, he and I trading the odd printed mini, colouring book, whatever we had going at the time for the last 14 years. When I had a chance as a head of story to find a fun, positive, and most importantly funny, board artist for FERDINAND (2017) Blair was my first call. He’s created funny and inspired work for so many children in both his professional and personal work, and his comics and books are still read over and over by our own kids. Happy Trails, Blair. You’ve brightened our own trails while you were here.

Love to the Kitchens, each and every one.

Blair and my older brother Jarrett were best friends growing up in Milton. Our families would get together often and all us kids would have wild adventures on Woodward Avenue. I have so many wonderful childhood memories with the Kitchen family. Blair was always a kind, fun, gentle soul. I reconnected with Blair years later through hockey when my son began playing for the Sabres in 2016 and I ran into Blair at the rink. He was proud to tell me about his family and to be coaching one of his children. I am so very sorry to hear of his passing. Sending heartfelt condolences to the entire family.
