Obituary for Betty Cruickshanks

Elizabeth (Betty) Cruickshanks – nee Hodkin
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Betty on Friday, September 27, 2019. Surrounded by her loving family, she was comfortable and at peace.
Betty was born on March 29, 1939 to James and Elizabeth Hodkin. She grew up in Niagara Falls where she married Charles Cruickshanks (deceased). They moved to Peel Village, Brampton, in 1963 where she raised her three daughters and forged lifelong friendships.
Betty is survived by her daughters Beth (Richard), Cheryl (Dennis) and Kim (Pat), her partner of 40 years, Glen Smith, and stepdaughter, Glenda, as well as seven grandchildren, Lindsay (Joel) Mitchell, Rebecca (Nelio), Zachary, Jonathan, Katie and Mackenzie (Dylan) and great grandson, Brody, whom she had the joy of meeting last March on her 80th birthday.
Betty leaves behind her much-loved sister, Sharon Claydon and her brother-in-law, Dave, as well as her brother Jack. She was predeceased by her brother Jim (Frieda) and Dave (Betty) Hodkin. She was also predeceased by her special sister-in-law June Hodkin. June, Sharon and Betty were inseparable.
Betty will be missed by her life-long family friends: Ann Daley and family, the Gauthier, Kozar and Beeston families as well as her second family, the Lackies – her next-door neighbours for 30 years.
Betty also leaves behind many nieces and nephews on both the Hodkin and Cruickshanks sides. She loved them all dearly.
Betty was a wonderful lady and will be sorely missed.
The family cannot thank enough, the caring staff of Headwaters Health Center, Orangeville especially Dr. Mauro and the nurses and staff of F Wing.
Please join us to celebrate Betty’s life at Smith’s Funeral Home, 1167 Guelph Line, Burlington, on Saturday, October 26, 2019. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm followed by a reception.
