Bernie always made me feel welcome and interesting. I loved spending time with her and am grateful to Phyllis for allowing me to know her funny and charming mom. She was a lady who had strong values and faith. I am sorry for the loss but am comforted to know that her faith guided her and that she lived a long and happy life.

To the Hession Family,
I know you mom will be welcomed to heaven and will remember fondly as the best dressed lady in the front pew at St. John's Church in Burlington. We grew up knowing you all through our mother's and the C.W.L. bazzars. I will fondly remember Bernadette for her being smartly dress and always in her heels! She was either dress in lavender or red and was always stunning. She had a great long life and I will miss her. God Rest Her Soul.

I met Bernie about 25 years ago in Vancouver. We met at Phyllis' house for dinner. After dinner I asked if she would look at my swollen ankle. She knew immediately that I needed to be admitted into a hospital. Once we got to the hospital Bernadette took charge and started telling everyone "I'm a retired nurse" before telling them what needed to be done immediately. They did not dare ignore her demands.

She probably saved my life. She has been my guardian angel and dear friend ever since. She prayed for me daily. She inspired me to be better. I never minded her telling me to stop drinking (or any other advice) because I knew her concern always came from a special place of love. Of course I knew that she was always right. When I was in the hospital bed she wrote the following keys to living life on a piece of paper that I kept forever. 1. Love Yourself. 2. Love God. 3. Forget the Past. 4. Help anyone you can.

She always talked about her kids, grandkids, and her late husband who she loved dearly. I was always amazed how many books she read every week. I loved watching her walking around her retirement home; hugging and saying "Hi" to everyone.

I consider it a privilege to have known her. I am so happy that I was able to say goodbye on her last day. I was only sad for myself because I knew she was happy and ready to let go. The world needs more Bernadettes. She was a radiant beam of light. I shall miss that beam of light. I loved her. Scott Dale
