Obituary for Barbara Willson (Burchell)
WILLSON, Barbara nee Burchell
Passed peacefully at Joseph Brant Hospital on Wednesday, June 23rd 2021 at the age of 88. Barbara will be deeply missed by her beloved husband of 64 years George Willson; by her loving children Tom Willson, Linda (Doug) Gallagher, and Katie (Bruce) MacKinnon; by her cherished grandchildren Andrew, Dru (Nichola), Chloe (Mike), Ayla, and Fraser; and by her sister Kay. Barbara is predeceased by her sister Margaret.
Barbara graduated from the Hamilton General Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. Shortly after, her adventurous spirit lead her to nurse in California, but George’s passionate persuasion inspired her to return to Canada to start their wonderful life together. She spent many years selflessly caring for people, especially her family.
She loved the camaraderie of her nursing class, Bridge and Church groups Probus, neighbours, family and her multitude of friends.
We often referred to her as ‘Saint Barbara’ because of her gentle, kind, and thoughtful spirit. We will miss her constant laughter and lovely disposition and aspire to be half the person she was.
As per her wishes cremation has taken place and a private family ceremony has been held.
For those who wish, donations in Barbara’s honour to Joseph Brant Hospital would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
She would love if you had a glass of Harvey’s Bristol Cream Sherry in her honour around noon, or whatever time suits you best. What a hoot, Nana.
