Obituary for Barbara Smith
SMITH, Barbara Ruth (Bowslaugh) passed away on August 4 at Joseph Brant Hospital. Barbara had 85 wonderful years blessing her family and friends. Born in Grimsby, Ontario, November 28, 1936, to Cecil and Florence Bowslaugh, Barbara attended Grimsby High. She went on to be a Nurse’s assistant at Henderson General in Hamilton Ontario. She met and was wed to her life-long sweetheart Ron Warren Smith in Grimsby, Ontario in 1957. Barbara was a loving and supportive wife, a caring mother of three, and “Nana” to seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her kind and gracious heart blessed all who she cherished and met.
The joy of her life was being with family and friends, whether it was traveling to hockey, lacrosse, golf, baseball and soccer games, horse farms for competitions, cottage country during the summers, Florida in the winters, traveling the world with life-long friends or just game night at home with loved-ones. Barbara loved to sing at Port Nelson United Church in Burlington and First Presbyterian Church in Titusville, Florida. She had a voice of an Angel. Barbara valued her charitable work and fellowship with her sorority, the Beta Sigma Phi Chapter.
She is preceded in death by her brother Alan (Lilian) Bowslaugh.
Barbara is survived by her loving Husband of sixty-five years, Ron Warren Smith, her three grateful sons Warren (Jadzia) Smith of Burlington, Garth (Shannon) Smith of Burlington, Brent (Audrey) Smith of Chattanooga, TN, her beautiful grandchildren Melanie Napier of London Ontario, Holly Smith of Whitehorse, YT, Megan (Justin) Kopalasingam of Burlington, Kaylea and Paige Smith of Burlington, Taylor (Violeta) Smith of Atlanta, GA, and Victoria (Raymond III) Dearman of Chattanooga, TN., her wonderful great grandchildren Jack and Eric Napier, and Rames Dearman IV.
A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, August 10th at Port Nelson United Church located at 3132 South Drive, Burlington, Ontario L7N 1H7, 905.637.5631. Visitation with family and friends from 10 am, until the time of the service at 11am. A reception to follow service at the church.
