Obituary for Angela Antonello

It is with much sadness that the family of Angela Antonello announces her peaceful passing on the morning of November 10, 2023 at 97 years of age with her daughter Linda by her side. Predeceased by her dear husband, Attilio (1993) and was the cherished mother of Linda (Lino) Pauletto, Roberta (Norm) MacLeod, and her late son Carlo (2007) (Pamela) Antonello. Angela was the beloved Nonna of Chris (Lisa) Pauletto, Robert (Rose) Pauletto, Dan Pauletto, Carly (late David) (2023) DiDiodato, Jonathan (Justine) MacLeod, Mallory (Adam) Antonello, and Dayna (Michael) Antonello and was the adored Bisnonna of thirteen great-grandchildren. Angela is survived by her dear sister Adelia Guidolin in Australia and predeceased by sisters Maria, Zita, Marcelina and Clara and her only brother Guido.

Angela was born in Castello di Godego, Veneto Italy on March 25th, 1926 to parents Giuseppe and Emilia (Bragagnolo) Bergamin. After marrying her husband Attilio in Italy in 1948, she later followed him to Canada in 1949, settling in Hamilton. It was not an easy life at first but they persevered, worked hard and raised a close family which included daughters Linda, Roberta and son Carlo. To her children, she was the perfect mother, providing them with an upbringing that was filled with an abundance of love, a happy home and lots of Italian cooking. While Attilio worked, Angela was a stay at home mother, becoming a skilled seamstress and dressmaker, a maestro de la cucina, and a hard working gardener. All the while she developed her English skills by watching the afternoon “soaps” (usually discussed afterwards on the phone with Zia Maria or Zia Marcina).

Angela loved her family wholeheartedly and loved family get-togethers. She also had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. Her positive influence during their early years has remained with them to this day. She could never do enough for any of us and was generous to a fault. A trip to the store or Tim Hortons (one of her favorite places) invariably came with an “I pay” refrain.

Angela was a beautiful soul both inside and out. She was devoted to her faith and truly exemplified the meaning of what it meant to be a good Catholic. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church and a member of the Catholic Women's League where she dedicated many hours and made many lifelong friends. Although we have lost her here on earth, Heaven has gained an angel and she is now reunited with her beloved husband and son.

The family would like to thank all of the dedicated PSWs, nurses and staff at Albright Manor that took care of “Nonna” over the past 12 years. Although her later years got increasingly difficult for both her and the family, we always felt that she was well cared for and in good hands.

Visitation will be held at Smith’s Funeral Home, 454 Hwy 8, Stoney Creek on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 between 5-8pm. A service will take place in the chapel at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 10 am. For those who may like to make a donation in Angela’s memory, the family would like you to please consider Albright Manor.

Rest in Peace Mama. Sempre nei nostri cuori.
