Obituary for Aileen Mary Petch
Aileen Mary Petch (nee Keating) passed away peacefully on March 18th 2022 just 2 months shy of her 104th birthday. Predeceased by her husband Arthur and son Trevor. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Deborah (Ross MacKenzie) and daughter-in-law Catharine.
Aileen was born in Port Aux Basques, Newfoundland and grew up in Montreal. She loved to entertain and hosted many gatherings, whether it was when she and Arthur lived in Toronto, Hamilton, Los Angeles or Thornhill. Aileen acted as the family matriarch for her 6 younger siblings. Aileen had an indomitable spirit and was always vibrant and curious.
Up until the end Aileen continued to recite poems, collage her walls with newspaper photos and sing songs in French or English (being tone deaf didn’t deter her). Her family would like to thank the staff at The Village of Tansley Woods LTC for the wonderful care they provided over the past 10 years. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held later. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution to the Canadian Red Cross or UNHCR would be appreciated.
