Cherry Orchard

I have had the privilege of knowing Floyd for about 39 years.  My first acquaintance with him was when I was about 15 years old.  I worked for E.D.Smith on the farm in the cherry orchard, and Floyd was my Supervisor.  He was a great boss and working for him was a lot of fun.  Often, when high up in the tree, I would feel a cherry hit me in the back and when I turned around to see who was tossing cherries at me, it was Floyd - with a big grin on his face.  He was an instigator and would often say, if you can't have fun, why work?  I liked his philosophy and I'm sure that is why I kept going back.     Floyd also was an instructor for the Stock Aide program at Winona Gospel Church.  This is where he used his skills to be a spiritual leader for the young men who participated.  My brother, Tony was one of those young men who also had the privilege of knowing Floyd.   Many years had passed since then.  The next time that I crossed paths with Floyd was when I stumbled upon him at Puddicombe Farms.  He was sitting there very relaxed and seemed to be just "chilling".  It was good to see him once again.  He always had a welcoming smile on his face and seemed genuinely happy to see you.  Later, I learned that he spent a lot of time at this location taking many beautiful photos of wildlife.  His portfolio of all the different animals that he photographed was amazing to me.     I had the privilege of seeing Floyd and got to know a bit more about him and his family since his admission at West Lincoln before Christmas.  I ventured over to the ward from time to time to see him, and often bumped into his family.  It was a blessing for me to have this relationship with Floyd, Betty, Doug and Liz.  My last visit with Floyd was on Valentine's Day.  I asked him, "Floyd, do you know what day it is today?"  He shook his head "no".  I said, "It is Valentine's Day; a day when we are to tell those who we love."  So I put my hand on his arm, and I said, "I love you Floyd".  He just looked at me with that sparkle in his eye.  That was the last time I saw Floyd.  I told him that I would see him the following Tuesday, but of course, the Lord had other plans for him.   You will be dearly missed my dear friend.  I have been blessed knowing you and your family.     So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep. (Job 14:12)   Sleep my dear friend until the morning of the resurrection when God will give you a new, glorified body.  It has been an awesome privilege to know you dear Floyd, along with your family.   God bless, Love Elkie
