Obituary for Matthew Potvin

Matthew Potvin
Matthew Arthur Robert Potvin, cherished son of Michael and Melanie Potvin, brother to Megan Potvin, and partner to Marie-Soleil Laverty passed away unexpectedly on January 8th, 2019. He came into our lives on November 3rd, 1992 at McKellar General Hospital in Thunder Bay Ontario. It was clear from his first breath that he would be a special young man. Quick to achieve milestones, Matthew demonstrated an inquisitive mind thirsting for knowledge and wanting to learn and share everything he could from and with others. Kind and compassionate, Matthew wanted to be friends with everyone around him throughout his life. He had a unique ability to quickly connect with people, understand what they needed, and went the extra step to ease any pain and create some happiness. Matt had an incredible sense of humour! With his brilliant mind, a razor-sharp wit and an empathetic heart, by all accounts, Matt made a memorable and lasting impression on everyone he encountered. Matt was focused on his career in real estate and business, his passion, when he was suddenly taken from us. We are broken but our faith brings us comfort in knowing that Matthew will continue to love deeply as he completes his journey supported by those that have went before him- he is not alone.

He is also survived by Great Grandmother Helen McDevitt, Grandparents Arthur and Barb (Potvin), Robert and Maureen (Marttunen), Aunts and Uncles: Sharon Mercier, Carrie-Anne Wilkes (Evan), Lori Schaffer (Murray), Robyn Marttunen, Steven Marttunen; Cousins April and Kyle Mercier, Ashley Wilkes, Taylor Marttunen, Selena and Hannah Schaffer, and Aiden and Tristan Patterson; as well as numerous great aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that are our extended family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday January 19th, 2019 in his hometown of Thunder Bay Ontario. All are welcome to attend the Valhalla Inn Ballroom beginning at 3pm with Tributes to begin at 4pm.

The family wishes to acknowledge the outpouring of support of good friend Lana Dunlop, the entire Joseph Brant Hospital community, the team at KOR, along with Matthew's respected work mentor Milena Sozio and her team at Sozio Real Estate Consultants.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to support a meaningful legacy for Matthew be directed to the following:
