Obituary for Jimmie Mann

Peacefully with his family at his side at Joseph Brant Hospital, Burlington, Ontario on 12 September, 2018, in his 85th year. Husband of Patricia (née Swainsbury) for 60 years. Father of Keith (Suzanne) of Dundas and Christopher (Tracy) of Waterdown. Very proud to be Pappy to Devyn, Molly, William, and Ellen. Predeceased by his four elder brothers, Jack, Henry, Harvey, and Walter. Jim was born and raised in northeast Hamilton. He was an acclaimed athlete, especially in the area of track and field. With Patricia, he was a founding member of the Spartan Track Club in the 1960s. He later coached and officiated at many events, including being a Chief Judge at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal. He was also an accomplished football player (Hamilton Tiger Cats), shooter, skier (Canadian Ski Patrol), golfer, and fisherman (Dofasco Angling Club and Berkley Ambassador). Jim began a long career at Dofasco in 1956, where he became one of Canada’s first information technology professionals and formed many lifelong friendships with his colleagues. A few years after their marriage in 1957, Jim and Patricia moved to Burlington to raise their family. Following Jim’s retirement from Dofasco, he worked alongside his close friends at Gemini Ford. Later, Jim and Patricia moved to Port Dover, where they made many dear friends and spent their days exploring Ontario, before returning to Burlington.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Joseph Brant Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion. Cremation has taken place.
