Condolence From: Michelle DaSilva
Condolence: Aunt Diane, Sherry, Tracey, Steven, Fraser and Grandchildren, I am so very sorry to hear about Uncle Charlie. Our families spent so much time together, especially growing up. Uncle Charlie was always the quieter one at a loud table, taking it all in while petting the cat, throwing out the well timed funny remark when you least expected it. Charlie always took the time to talk with me and have a chat when I saw him; his consideration did not go unnoticed. He loved to tell me about what all of his children and grandchildren were up to; he was so proud of you all. May your wonderful memories and strength as a family hold you together during this sad time. Love, Michelle, Steve and Charlotte DaSilva xo

Condolence: Charlie and I were good friends as boys.I believe at the time we were walking to Park St School.I seemed to remember he fell through the ice on the brook (a favorite spot for adventure) and I pulled him out with a stick. He would tell the story that he pulled me out so we both thought we were the hero. One other time I fell off the ice floes (clampers) on the harbour and Charlie pulled me out. Then he took me home to dry my frozen clothes by his mom's furnace. He saved me a lot of grief when I got home dry that day. I remember as a boy playing cops and robbers with Charlie and knew him as a good, honest, and loyal friend.More recently living in Burlington near Charlie and his lovely wife Dianne we enjoyed some good games of golf together. I'll miss you Charlie. Arlene and I send our heartfelt condolences to your wife and family. Mel and Arlene Burton

Condolence From: Mildred Haenlein
Condolence: I was lucky enough to grow up on May Street with Charlie and the rest of the Martell Clan and remember him as quiet and shy but always smiling. The older boys always wanted "Little Charlie" on their team because of his grit, his heart and his determination....besides that, he was a good ball player. (HIs Uncle was "Big Charlie") In the mid 1960s as a young teen I visited my friend, Kay and her family on Broadholme Lane off Kearney Lake Road. Charlie was working for his Dad that summer and his sister Jeanne, always the jokester, had made him a "cigarette butt sandwich" ....wrapped it and sent it off with Charlie for his lunch. We all gathered after work not knowing what to expect. Charlie came in and just talked about his day ...until....he burst out laughing! We all joined in...what a great memory of the special bond they shared. Congratulations Charlie on raising such a lovely family with your high school sweetheart Diane and always having that sweet smile each time we met. It was a privilege to know you as a kid and as a family man, RIP Sweet Charlie, Milli Haenlein (Sissy Burton)
