Obituary for Samuel John DeMains

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Samuel John DeMains peacefully at Hamilton General Hospital on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at the age of 90. Sam was adored by his wife, Helen, for 68 years. Sam will be sadly missed by his Sister Annette Latondresse (late Lorie), son Peter, daughter Mary-Lynn Martin (Stan), grandchildren Alicia, Kyle, Samantha, Hannah, and grand-dog Toby. Sam is preceded in death by his sister Kay Burse (late Reg) and brothers Rudy and John. Remembered fondly by his cousins and many nieces and nephews. Everyone who knew Sammy, knew his love for Christmas and family. Sam was inspirational, generous and enriched many lives. Sam had very adventurous trips that included culture, shopping and culinary. In early years, Sam worked as a secretary for CNR / Accident Division because they only hired males, and he was skilled in shorthand and typing. Sam was an amazing high school football player, a beloved baseball coach and avid golfer. Sam was a devoted Hamilton Tiger Cat and Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan. Sam rose from general manager to purchasing the Canadian Division of Bowes Seal Fast Company. For over 20 years, Sam provided leadership and guidance to Bowes distributors across the country. In his later years, his passion was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Anything Sam did, he did with passion, which included artistic endeavours to teaching Dale Carnegie to filing everyone’s income tax. Sam never saw muscular dystrophy as a limitation, but as an opportunity to be inspirational to family and friends. Sam lived his life, seeing the cup as always half full. We will miss you ALWAYS.
For those who wish, memorial contributions in memory of Sam to Muscular Dystrophy Canada would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
