Obituary for Frances "Frankie" Burla

Frances "Frankie" Burla
Peacefully with family holding her hands, we announce with great sadness the passing of Frankie (nee Kominko) on Monday December 24, 2018, at the age of 89. In time for Christmas, joining her husband of 66 years, Johnny (November 2018).
Loving and cherished Mom to Dennis (Anna), Sherry Zych (Billy), Douglas (Jenn), Robert (Elaine) and Richard (Melissa). Predeceased by her eldest son David (Sandra) January 2018.
Will be deeply missed by her Grandchildren Darryl (Giovanna), Kevin (Julija), Paige (Justin), Alex, Jordan, Jarod and Great Grandchildren Ethan, Colin, Lexi, Natalia and Nixon. “Best Nana ever!”
She leaves behind her loyal fur babies Ginger and Joey.
Frankie was one of thirteen siblings growing up in Binscarth, Manitoba, and will be dearly missed by her sisters Vera MacLellan (Urban) and Lee Sauchuk (Steve).
Mom waitressed in various restaurants when she moved to Ontario, where she eventually met Dad, working at Johnny’s Grill, in Hamilton. Mom and Dad were married in Lennard, Manitoba, in 1952. Together they started farming in the early 1960’s beside the house they built in Winona, eventually taking over and farming the land where the famous “Frankie and Johnny’s Fruit Stand” still stands today, on Hwy 8, in Fruitland.
Mom loved and was adored by her loyal customers, always giving them ‘a little extra.’ Known for her big heart, her generosity and her famous pierogies and cabbage rolls. No one ever left hungry! EVERYBODY LOVED FRANKIE!
A special Thank you to the amazing and compassionate staff in the memory care ward, at Arbour Creek, in Hamilton, where Mom spent her last 16 months. Cremation has already taken place.
