Obituary for Wanda Adeline Van Impe (Miller)

Wanda Adeline Van Impe (Miller)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Wanda Adeline Van Impe (Miller) Wanda died peacefully at Joseph Brant Hospital on Friday, December 14, 2018.
If Dad was the wind in our sails, Mom was the helms person. She steered us past any rock, crevice or undertow that attempted to wreak havoc on her family. Dad was the breadwinner but Mom shaped our lives. Mom gave birth to 8 children. In 1962 through a tragic accident she lost her youngest child Michael at the age of two. My parents both mourned, but it was Mom who brought us back to the surface again. Mom was an Irish beauty, born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan and raised in Corktown, Hamilton. She attended Cathedral High and met the love of her life, our Dad, Albert Van Impe during the war. They were married for sixty-seven years.
Besides raising seven children with the help of our Nana, Bertha Van Impe, she was an active member of the St. John’s Catholic Women’s League and served in all positions including President. She loved gardening, and was a member of the RBG for several years. She took an active role in Dad’s business The Millionaire Drive Inn and handled the books for many years.
In 2013 Dad passed away, Mom had just broken her hip, but she rallied again to help her children through this sad time. Once she knew we would be okay, she allowed herself to rest in safe, still waters.
Mom has left behind 3 daughters Pat Segato (Tony), Karan Van Patter, Maureen Barnes (Glen Sibley) and 4 sons Randy (Yvonne), Phil (Anne), Tom (Carol), and Jack. She also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and another one on the way. She has three surviving siblings, Cathy and Ursula in Oregon and Pat Miller in Hamilton.
Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333) on Wednesday, December 19 from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church (2016 Blairholm Avenue, Burlington) on Thursday, December 20 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow.

She will be so welcomed in Heaven by our Dad and her son Michael. Mom loved all of her babies.
"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these”.
We would like to express our appreciation to Drs. Charmin, Greszlo and Cross and the wonderful nurses and staff at Joseph Brant Hospital.
Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Wanda are asked to please consider the homeless and the food bank at this time of year.

We will miss her so much
