Obituary for Debbie Lynn Murray (Potts)

Debbie Lynn Murray, née Potts – September 26th, 1957-September 14th, 2018.
Born in Belleville, Ontario to the late Mervyn and Loreen Potts, Debbie was a conscientious student with a love of family, hockey, and the outdoors. She graduated from Queen’s in 1979 with a degree in Psychology and the following year with a Bachelor of Education. Her love for young children shone throughout her life in her nursery school classes, private tutoring, and adoration of her many young nieces, nephews, and neighbours, who she loved even more than gardening!

Debbie met and fell in love with Alan Murray while attending Queen’s and they were married on June 28th, 1980. Together they raised two children and continued to enjoy canoeing, dancing, and spending time with their many, lifelong, friends, for 38 years. He will miss her deeply.

Her daughters, Jennifer (Greg) Ferrin and Heather (Chris) Dart remember a devoted stay-at-home mom who volunteered at school, did crafts, arranged family adventures, and spent hours reading and talking about life at bedtime. There is no doubt that her encouragement and support gave them the foundation upon which they have built their successes in education, career, and relationships.

Recently, Debbie became the proud Nana of Craig, Shane, and Nicolette and loved every minute she spent with them whether reading stories in a play fort or playing driveway hockey. They will have these precious memories to treasure for many years.

Debbie will also be missed by her bother Mark (Kari) Potts and their children, Nikki and Chris who remember sharing Christmases and family reunions at the cottage, as well as her extended families, friends, and neighbours.

Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Tuesday from 3-4 and 6-8p.m.

A Celebration of Debbie’s Life will be held at the Art Gallery of Burlington on Thursday, September 20, 2018 from 5-7p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to the Terry Fox Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or the Royal Botanical Gardens would be appreciated.
