Obituary for Bob O'Connor

Bob O'Connor
(Bobby O, Big Bob)
August 28, 1948 – June 15, 2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bob surrounded by his family at The Carpenter Hospice. To the end he showed respect, dignity and thankfulness to all who helped him.
Predeceased by his parents, Mary and Vince O’Connor. Survived by his wife, Heather (McMillian). Father of Sean (Sarah), and Lauren (Cameron Duffy). He was a brother to Joanne Wilson (Cliff), Paul, Mary Margaret, Vince, Greg (Francine), Veronica Hopkins (Nick), Dan (Julie), Frank (Marian) and Patricia. He was a brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, great-great uncle, nephew and a godson.
Bob’s sense of humor was his special gift to all, even in his last few days. He made everyone feel at ease. He was ahead of his time being a stay at home father to Sean and Lauren and that was his greatest accomplishment. The intelligence, the music, the sports, the facts and the friendships were such a part of his being.
He was a LFOA official for many years, as well as a basketball referee. He was a warden for several years with St. Elizabeth’s Anglican Church in East Burlington and also volunteered with the Canadian Open.
His faith was an important part of his life, and it had certainly been put to the test in this past year.
We would like to acknowledge all the people who helped us on this journey by reaching out with food, words of comfort, prayers and hugs. Thank you to the Oncology Department, nurses in the ICU and Ward 6 at Joseph Brant Hospital, Dr. Greszlo, the volunteers and caregivers at The Carpenter Hospice, and Rev. Canon Susan Wells for all your kindness, support and care.
Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Thursday, June 21 from 12 p.m. where a Service of Remembrance will be held in the Chapel at 1 p.m. Cremation has taken place. For those who wish, donations in memory of Bob to The Carpenter Hospice or St. Elizabeth’s Anglican Church would be sincerely appreciated by the family. There will be no receiving line, Bob was not a fan of line ups.
