Obituary for Mary Lou Jeanette Ward

WARD, Mary Lou Jeanette R.N.
nee Hermiston
October 14, 1938 – April 29th, 2018

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Lou on April 29, 2018 at Joseph Brant Hospital, Burlington. Predeceased by her son Jeff Ward of Burlington, parents, Leslie and Mary Hermiston of Warkworth, ON and sister Wylanne Weatherson of Oakville. Survived by her loving husband Robert (Bob) of 58 years, daughter Peggy, (Alan) and son Scott (Shelley) and Janet (Jeff). Cherished grandmother of Nicole, Stratton, Sterling, Brandon, Alexandra, Drew, Christopher and Daniel. Great grandmother of Ava and Daniella. Mary Lou is also survived by her sisters, Linda McCormick (Bob) of Peterborough and Nancy Hermiston of Vancouver, BC. She will be sadly missed by her uncle, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, and her brothers and sisters-in –law. Mary Lou graduated in 1959 from School of Nursing, Peterborough Civic Hospital. She started working in October 1959, at various hospitals in various departments throughout Southern Ontario during her early years of marriage. She joined Joseph Brant Hospital in October, 1969 and was Head Nurse in Obstetrics (Labour & Delivery) from 1970 until her retirement in 1994. After her retirement, she worked as a receptionist for Dr. Procter and Dr. Costin. She was very proud of her profession and reportedly was the last nurse at Joseph Brant Hospital to wear a “white” uniform including her cap. Special Thank you to the nursing staff of Joseph Brant Hospital for their special care during this difficult time. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Burlington East Presbyterian Church, 505 Walkers Line, Burlington on Friday, May 4, 2018 from 11:30a.m. until the time of a memorial service in the chapel at 1p.m. Immediately following the Church service everyone is invited and encouraged to join the family for food, refreshments and visiting at the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 60, 828 Legion Road, Burlington. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice.
