With heavy hearts we announce that our mother, Caterina Martire (nee Falvo) passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 26, 2018 in her 92nd year. Born in Sambiase, Catanzaro, Italy, mom immigrated to Canada in 1953 with her son and daughter to reunite with our father, Giuseppe (Joe) Martire in Hamilton. Her love of family and building a better life for all of us was important to mom. She was at the core of every celebration, cooking with affection to ensure that all were well-fed and loved. Predeceased by our Father, Joe (1994). Left to remember her with love her son Frank (Angela), and daughters Sylvia Colalillo, Carm, Nancy Pestrak, and Josie (Mark) Slack; much loved Nanni to grandchildren Joe, Michael (Lucy) and Lori Colalillo; Julie (Alberto) Grande; Nadia (Frank) Quaranta; Tyler and Brittany Pestrak; and Michael Slack; and great-grandchildren Austin, Claudia and Leanna Colalillo; Diana and Christian Grande; and Francesco Quaranta. Fondly remembered by her extended family in Canada, Chicago, Italy, Australia and Argentina. Survived by her sisters in Italy, Giovanna and Vittoria. Predeceased by her brother Tony and sisters Rosina, Francescina, Teresina and Italina. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ralph Profetto for his many years of loving care, her personal support worker Surinder, and the staff on the 3rd Floor of St. Peter's Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Peter's Hospital, 3rd Floor would be appreciated by the family. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 454 Highway #8 (east of Millen Road) STONEY CREEK (905-664-4222) on Sunday, April 29, 2018 from 2-8 with Vigil Prayers at 3:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Incarnation of Our Blessed Lord Roman Catholic Church, Barton Street and Nash Road, Hamilton on Monday, April 30, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
