Waller, Douglas Albert (P.Eng.) (1933-2018)
Doug passed peacefully at Carpenter House in Burlington, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 27th, 2018 at the age of 84.
Son of the late Kathleen and Albert Main Waller, Q.C. and brother of the late Robert Waller (Sue). He will be fondly remembered by Marjorie, mother of his three children; John (Malene), Robert (Paula) and Sandra (David). Doug will also be missed by his grandchildren Sarah (Brad), Brandon, Michael, Jessica and Jacob as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Doug was a retired Professional Engineer who worked his entire career at the Ministry of Transportation. He finished his career as the area construction manager for Southwestern Ontario, overseeing many projects building Ontario’s highway infrastructure, including the 400 series, QEW and the Skyway Bridge.
Doug’s sports interests included hockey and baseball, as well as being involved in coaching hockey and softball. Hobbies included organ playing, singing in the choir, woodworking, stained glass, bird watching at the Royal Botanical Gardens, computers and crossword puzzles.
Special thanks to the congregation and clergy of St. Christopher’s Church, the staff at Joseph Brant Hospital, especially the Cancer Clinic, Carpenter Hospice, and all of the wonderful doctors, nurses and care-giving friends who helped and comforted him during his battle with cancer.
The family will receive friends at Smith’s Funeral Home, 1167 Guelph Line, Burlington (905)-632-3333 on Tuesday January 30th, from 3 pm to 5 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm. Funeral service will be held in St. Christopher's Anglican Church, 662 Guelph Line, Burlington on Wednesday January 31st at 11 am. Reception at St. Christopher’s to follow. Private graveside service to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society www.cancer.ca .
