Obituary for Mary Rita Tilden R.N (Haley)

TILDEN, Mary Rita Tilden (Haley) R.N.

“Great” Aunt Mary died peacefully on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Joseph Brant Hospital, Burlington in her 98th year. Predeceased by her husband Dr. John Tilden, parents Leo and Ella Haley, and her brothers Jack and James. Loving sister to Teresa, who survives her. Devoted sister-in-law to Margaret (James) Haley, the late Jeannette (Jack) Haley and the late Tom Love. Mary was, in every sense of the word, a great, great aunt and was everybody’s special friend and relative. Her cheeky sense of humour, infectious laugh and sparkly eyes made the many family functions she attended so joyfully memorable. Everyone looked forward to seeing Aunt Mary, listening to her stories, and receiving her genuine and authentic pearls of wisdom, all reflecting a life well lived. Mary will be dearly missed by dozens, yes dozens, of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and their in-laws. She will be missed by her many good friends, especially Pat and Marnie whose regular visits in Mary’s final years brought her comfort and joy. Mary was a faithful and long-time member of St. John the Baptist Parish. In May of this year, Mary celebrated the 75th anniversary of her graduation as a registered nurse. She was the most “senior” person present and thoroughly enjoyed the St. Joseph’s Hospital Nursing School reunion and looking back at her rewarding career working in a variety of nursing roles in the Hamilton area. The family wish to thank and acknowledge the loving care and friendship at Martha’s Landing over the past 6 years as well as the compassionate and attentive staff on 6 South at Joseph Brant Hospital. Mary’s funeral mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, Brant Street (at Blairholm Avenue), Burlington on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 11:00am. Visitation will take place for one hour preceding the funeral. Reception to follow at Smith’s Funeral Home, 485 Brant Street, Burlington. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Mary are asked to please consider St. Vincent de Paul.
