Obituary for Luigi Cavallaro

Luigi  Cavallaro
June 12th, 1938 to October 26th, 2017

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Luigi on Thursday, October 26, 2017 surrounded by family at St. Peter's Hospital, after a difficult battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Ivana. Proud father of Franco (Cheryl) and Marco (Leah). Cherished Nonno to Noah, Cole, Stella, Claire and Cade. Predeceased by his parents Franco and Florinda Cavallaro and father-in-law Antonio Colaiacovo; he is survived by his mother-in-law Elisa Colaiacovo of Abbruzzo Italy. Dear Brother of Lucia (and the late Pasquale) DeStephanis of Abbruzzo Italy, Cesidia (and the late Claudio) Balassone, Teresa (and the late Domenico) Pace and the late Giovanna and her (surviving husband Fred) Pizzoferrato all of Stoney Creek. Brother-in-law of Giuseppe and Mirna Colaiacovo and Cesido and Margherita Colaiacovo of Abbruzzo Italy. Luigi will be sadly missed by cousins, nieces, nephews and friends in Canada, Italy and the USA. Luigi served as an Alpini soldier in Abbruzzo, Italy. He retired from Arcelor Mittal/Dofasco with over 25 years of service. Luigi was a strong, silent family man who provided for his family until no end. He loved watching Italian soccer, playing bocce or cards and spending time with the family. His passions were gardening, curing meats and making wine. At family get together's his bountiful harvests were shared and enjoyed by all. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Juravinski Cancer Centre, St. Peter's Hospital and CAP for their compassionate care. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 454 Highway #8 (east of Millen Road) STONEY CREEK (905-664-4222) on Monday, October 30, 2017 from 4-9 p.m. Prayer Vigil at 8:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, 304 Highway #8, Stoney Creek on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at 10 a.m. Entombment to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Children’s Wish Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
