Obituary for Edith Louise "Mog" Anthony (Moore)

Edith 'Mog' Louise Anthony (nee Moore) BA, Order of Niagara, (b. June 6, 1921) peacefully left this earthly place on June 11, 2017 to join her late husband, Reverend Canon William (Bill, aka Grampy) Robert Anthony (d. 1987). She was surrounded by 3 generations of loving family and the very caring staff of Albright Manor, Beamsville, ON. Mog was predeceased by her parents, Marion Caroline Moore (nee Sterns) and Gordon Carliss Moore. She was born and raised in Dartmouth, NS, as the beloved granddaughter of J. Edwin and Caroline Emily Sterns, the founding family of L. Sterns and Son Dry Goods Store, Dartmouth, NS. After graduating from Kings College, Dalhousie University, Halifax, in 1942, she met Grampy at an Anglican Young People's Association event. They married in 1947 and moved to Falmouth, NS, where Mog taught all elementary grades in a one-room school in Martock. Following moves to Clementsport and Parrsboro, NS, they moved to Ontario (Jordan, Oakville, Thorold, Fort Erie, Grimsby, Beamsville) where she lived for most of her adult life. Mog was a woman of great strength, character, and wisdom. She was a gracious and capable clergyman's wife, a tutor of Latin and French, and a children's librarian. Mog's love of music was surpassed only by her excellent Scrabble skill, knowledge of trivia, and love of blue and white striped shirts. She opened her heart and home to countless people over her life and was known by family, friends and caregivers as an eternally positive and optimistic person, generous both with herself and her possessions. Mog was the proud mother of Dr. Robert Anthony (Mary Jane), Dr. Susan Anthony (Jim) and Trish Blackwood (Chris). She was the extremely proud grandmother of Dr. David Anthony (Emily Leu), Kate Anthony, Dr. Kelly Blanchette (nee Anthony-Brown) (Drew), Steph Anthony-Brown, Emily Blackwood, and Hilary Blackwood. Mog was thrilled to be a great-grandmother to Henry and Marlo Anthony, and Ava and Morgan Blanchette. As per Mog's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial celebration of Mog's life will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Andrew's Anglican Church, 7 St Andrews Avenue, Grimsby, ON. A private family interment is planned. In lieu of flowers, Mog's wish was for donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or a children's charity of your choice.
