EDWARDS, Derek Maurice
Peacefully at The Brant Centre on Thursday, January 12, 2017 in his 95th year. Survived by his loving wife, Joyce (nee Ramsay). Dear father of Bruce (Trish), Frances (Dana) Smyth, and loved father-in-law of Gail. Cherished grandfather of Lori (Michael) Rosenberg, Katie and Jenny Edwards. Predeceased by brother Graham, and survived by sister-in-law Nancy. Brother-in-law of Doris Ramsay. He will be dearly missed by extended family and friends. Born in Winnipeg, Derek graduated in Chemical Engineering from McGill University and later earned a Masters of Business Administration degree at McMaster University. Retired as Operations Manager of Diamond Shamrock Canada, he found a wonderful second career in engineering with Aramco in Saudi Arabia. Derek served in the Canadian Army, Team 45, was an early member of Burlington Little Theatre, long time curler at B.C.C., member of the Probus Club and Chemical Institute of Canada. Derek lived every day to the fullest; his indomitable spirit and lust for life will not be forgotten. A special thanks to the attending nursing staff at The Brant Centre for their kind care and support and Dr. M. Foster for many years of friendship and care. A Service of Remembrance will be held at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street (one block North of City Hall), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Friday, January 20, 2017 at 1 p.m. Friends are welcome to gather from 12 noon until the time of service. Reception to follow. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson’s Research would be appreciated.
