Passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, Burlington, on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at the age of 74. Beloved husband of Susan for 37 years. Loving Dad of Sheri and father-in-law to Dave Matthews. Proud “Grampa” of Emily. Doug will be dearly missed by brothers Graham (Jan) and Norman, sister Susan (Phil), sister-in-law Lynn (Dan) and mother-in-law Pearl (late Leon). Doug will also be missed dearly by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Bert and Anne, brother Bert and brother-in-law Charlie (late Diana). Doug retired in 1997 after 24 years as a City of Toronto Paramedic. A special thank you to the dialysis staff at Mackenzie Health Richmond Hill Hospital and the Burlington Dialysis Satellite Unit. Also, thank you to the staff on the 4th floor at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Monday, December 12, 2016 from 6-8 p.m., and Visitation at Wellington Square United Church, 2121 Caroline Street, Burlington, from 12 Noon until time of Funeral Service at 1 pm. Reception will follow at the church. For those who wish, donations in memory of Doug to Lions Camp Dorset would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
