Obituary for Gordon Robert Gerry

Gordon Robert Gerry, P.Eng.
With saddened hearts we announce the passing of Gordon Robert Gerry on November 30, 2016. The son of the late Eldon and Juanita Gerry, Gord was born in Regina on January 10, 1938 and grew up in Prince Albert, SK. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a degree in Civil Engineering. Gord started his career at SNC. He was the Chief Designer on the Idukki Arch Dam in India. During this time, he spent 4½ wonderful years living in southern India with his family. He then established a Western Canadian presence for the company. Gord was a member of The Society of Professional Engineers, Order of Engineers of Quebec, The Ontario Society of Professional Engineers, and a member of The Engineering Institute of Canada. He later retired from AMEC. Gord met his wife Lynn in Edmonton. They lived in Beaconsfield, Quebec, then moved to Burlington and were married in 1993. Gord’s loss will be felt by so many. He will be remembered for his incredible sense of humour, his stories and jokes, (especially the ones that made him laugh while telling them). Together, Gord and Lynn loved to entertain, and he taught his friends to appreciate single malt scotch and how to make the perfect martini. He loved fine wines, French champagne, great food, and a good Cuban cigar. Gord loved all types of music, especially Jazz, and he definitely knew his way around the dance floor. After retirement he surprised and delighted all with his pie baking skills. Gord also loved to golf and was so proud of his two holes-in-one at The Burlington Golf and Country Club. Over the years, Lynn and Gord travelled far and wide and made new friends wherever they landed. Gord was a humble and true gentleman who was always a loyal friend to so many. He will be deeply missed by all those who were lucky enough to have him in their lives. Gord cherished Lynn, his greatest love, best friend and dedicated caregiver, and even when his memories were stripped from him, he knew his darling Lynn. He will be sadly missed by his sons, Douglas (Donna) in Pasadena CA, Kenneth (Heidi) in Toronto and Graham in Quesnel BC. He will be fondly remembered by his sister Helen (the late Patrick) and brother Jim (Pat) in Victoria, BC. as well as many nieces and nephews. Gord was predeceased by his sister Barbara. Thanks to Gord’s very special caregivers, Kathy, Gloria and Melanie who treated him with so much love and respect. Thank you to Drs. Greenway, Platch and Sun, and to the caring nurses at Joseph Brant Hospital. Lynn and family also send very special thanks to friends Drs. Ben Carruthers, Tom Durcan, Dave Sansome and Barry Hunter for their support all along. The Acclaim Heath Care Seniors Day Program provided family support when most needed. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Burlington Golf and Country Club on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 6:30, tributes at 7:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, suggested donation to: The Acclaim Heath Care Seniors Day Care Program, The Joseph Brant Hospital - Our New Era Campaign or the Burlington Alzheimer Society.
