Obituary for Mary Sagan (Antonenko)
SAGAN, Mary (nee Antonenko) -
Passed away peacefully at her home in Burlington surrounded by family, on Sunday, September 25, 2016, at the age of 94. Loving wife of Roman “Ray” for 72 years. Cherished mother of Ann Oatman (Ron) and Peter (Brenda Young). Proud grandmother of Geoffrey, Hilary Perry (Jason), Craig (Jennifer Thompson) and Matthew (Carol), and great-grandmother of Delaina and Liam. Predeceased by her sister Nadia and daughter-in-law Kathleen Ann. Mary will be deeply missed by extended family and friends. Mary was a survivor of Holodomor, a Ukranian Genocide that took place from 1932-1933. Visitation will be held at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON, 905-632-3333, on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 4-7pm, with Panachyda (prayers) beginning at 6:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church (Pearl St. at Pine St. - BURLINGTON) on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 10:00am. Interment at St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Cemetery (1280 Dundas St W, Oakville) followed by a reception back at the Church Hall at approximately 1:30pm. If desired, donations in Mary’s memory to The Canada Ukraine Foundation or to the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church would be sincerely appreciated.
