Anthony John  "Tony"  Marshall
MARSHALL, Anthony John M.A. M.Litt. (Oxon) Professor Emeritus Queen’s University, Kingston-
Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at The Carpenter Hospice, Burlington on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at the age of 79. Beloved husband of Cynthia (nee Holt) for 50 years. Loving father of John (Debbie Yamamura) and Michael (Jennifer Asling). Cherished grandfather of Keiko, Kenji, Clara and Anna. Predeceased by his brothers Brian and Peter. Tony was born in Cardiff, Wales and attended Wadham College, Oxford. After teaching at Bryn Mawr College and Amherst College, Tony joined the Classics Department at Queen’s University, Kingston, where he taught for 40 years. A lover of literature and a voracious reader, Tony was renowned for his quick wit and relentless punnery. A devoted teacher, husband, father and grandfather, he will be fondly remembered by all. Cremation has taken place. Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street, (one block north of City Hall), BURLINGTON, 905-632-3333 on Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 12 noon until time of Memorial Service to be held in the Chapel at 1 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home. If desired, donations to The Carpenter Hospice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
