After a brief and hard fought battle, peacefully surrounded by family, Joe passed away at Joseph Brant Hospital on July 22, 2016, at the age of 79. Beloved husband of Elizabeth "Betty" (nee Vagasky) for almost 55 years. Loving father of David (Linda), Diane (Steve) and Dwayne (Erica). Grandfather of DJ, Lindsay, Haley, Nate and Norah. Brother of the late Annie (late Cyril), Steve and Cecelia (late George). Joe, an employee of Stelco for over 44 years, will be remembered for his great love of hockey, baseball, lacrosse and working on the family farm. His children and grandchildren will never forget their coach, mentor and biggest fan of all their sports activities. Special thanks to the nurses and doctors on floor 5 West at Joseph Brant Hospital for all of their compassionate care. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333) on Monday, July 25, 2016 from 7-9 pm and on Tuesday, July 26 from 3-5 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Raphael's Roman Catholic Church, 4072 New Street, Burlington on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
