Michael “Mike” slipped away in the loving arms of his family at Juravinski Hospital on February 9, 2016 after a valiant battle due to complications of a stem cell transplant. Taken too soon at the age of 47. Family was everything to Mike. He was a devoted husband to Joanne, with whom he celebrated 21 years of marriage. Always a proud and nurturing father to his children, Christian, Michela, Joshua, and Johnpaul who meant the world to him. Mike will be missed by his loving parents Arnold and Marilynn Davies, brother Bruce (Christine). Mike learned Italian and became another son for his in laws. He will be missed by Teresina and the late Renzo Bortolotto, and brothers-in-law Paolo, Lawrence, Robert (Samantha). Adoring uncle to Sonia, God son Angelo, Mirella, Andrew, and Ryan. Mike touched many lives throughout his journey with his polite demeanour and huge smile. Michael’s extended family includes many uncles, aunts, cousins, and close friends, locally, in the USA and Italy. Mike grew up in Sarnia, was educated at the University of Waterloo (B.A.Sc. (Mechanical Engineering)). He had a long and successful career as an engineer in the auto industry developing expertise in heat exchanger design (holds two patents) and process improvement. After obtaining his M.B.A. from McMaster University he changed careers and at the time of his death was employed by the Royal Bank in Toronto as Manager, Strategic Capacity Initiatives. Mike was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Francis Xavier Church. He dedicated much time as a lead mentor of the Cardinal Newman FIRST robotics program. Most of all, he was devoted to his family and loved nothing better than spending time with Joanne and their children and supporting his children’s endeavors. Sincere thanks to the compassionate health care team at the Juravinski Hospital for the wonderful care given to Mike during his illness and hospitalization. Special thank you to the SFX and IHM community for the meals provided. Many thanks to the never ending love and support from friends, family, and community too numerous to mention.
